The Gospel of Miroslav

Dušan Mišić

Dimensions : The artwork measures 41.8x57 cm, and the frame is 62x77 cm.

Dušan graduated from the Academy of the Serbian Orthodox Church for Arts and Conservation in 2017. He has been practicing calligraphy since 2009 when he enrolled in the High School of Applied Arts. To date, he has won 11 awards and recognitions for his work, including three Golden Palettes, achieved in competition with 32 countries and 18,000 entries. He is a member of the prestigious ULUPUDS artists' association. Dušan teaches at the Belgrade Theological Seminary and creates works for the Serbian Patriarch and many bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as for the Protocol of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. At his first solo exhibition after graduating from the Academy, his mentor and the greatest Serbian calligrapher, Svetozar Pajić Djak, opened the exhibition and remarked: 'Look at my works and his; you will see he has surpassed me. Well, let it be so...' The Miroslav Gospel, a 12th-century book preserved to this day, contains 180 leaves, 360 pages, and 296 miniatures. It is a testament to our identity and culture. It has been recognized as the most beautiful book in the world and is protected by UNESCO. Before you is a reproduction of pages 329 and 330. The right page, specifically the 166th leaf, is the one missing from the Miroslav Gospel. This leaf was cut out by Porfirije Uspenski in 1846 and taken to St. Petersburg. To have this leaf returned to Serbia, the Russians demanded seven large-format paintings by the 20th-century Russian painter Nikolai Roerich from the National Museum. This should give you an idea of the value of a single page from this book. This page is crafted on hand-prepared goat parchment. The colors and inks used to illustrate and write it were made using medieval recipes. The text is written with a goose feather, and the miniature contains 24-karat gold.

On the occasion of the Savaball 2025, a Charity Auction is being organized to raise funds for the purchase of a house for the Dukić family from Obrenovac. This significant humanitarian project is being carried out in cooperation with the organization 'Serbs for Serbs.' The family consists of single mother Ljiljana and her three daughters – Slavica, Katarina, and Iva.
To participate in the auction, it is necessary to complete the form available on the official auction website. After submitting the form, the participant will receive an email with a link to confirm their bid, which will be activated upon clicking. If the bid is surpassed by a new highest bid, the participant will be notified via email and have the opportunity to place a new, higher bid.
During the evening of the Savaball, personal bids can also be made. All bids collected at the ball will be immediately entered into the system to ensure fair competition between physical and online participants. The auction ends on February 1, 2025, at 6:00 PM, after which the highest bidders will be contacted for payment arrangements and item collection.
In the case of two or more identical bids, priority will be given to the one first recorded in the system. Therefore, it is important to note that all bids are publicly displayed with the time of receipt but without revealing contact details, ensuring the anonymity of all participants.
Participants are encouraged to place bids even if they are lower than the current highest bid. If the highest bidder withdraws, the next highest bid will automatically become valid.
Entering bids does not require credit card information, nor will funds be retained before the auction ends. Payments will only be made after the highest bidders are contacted post-auction.
We invite you to participate in this humanitarian project and contribute to the shared goal of providing the Dukić family with the home they deserve.
